I'm bad at math, but in a good way I suppose, because as we installed the flooring, it seemed like there were five boxes left for a really long time....we had figured out exactly how much flooring we needed but were short the money. Then, before we knew it there was one row and a bit left! We made it to the end of the room only short one box with all the donation money! I'm grateful for all the support and donations in helping Grün's small business ambitions survive.

Floor Update

We've had so many generous people and were able to purchase enough flooring to cover all but the last few feet in the back of the store and we still need baseboards... but Grün will persevere! We plan on being open Easter weekend (April 10-11th). I think the floor is turning out great! A special thanks to everyone who has donated so far and my dad, for all his hard work on the installation. Spread the word Grün is back!

Well, we've finally worked it out..... this is our new location. It will take a bit of time to get things ready and reopen, but hooray for coolness!

The new address is 17 North Main Street, in St. George. Not too far from our last shop, but this location is much more swell, right downtown and we love the possibilities. Check back for updates!

All around the globe, people are talking about the economy.... "hey, my paycheck bounced!" or "I went to the office and my key didn't work anymore"..."my boss's cell phone has been shut off and I went to his house and it was gone" stuff like that. For the regular working guy or gal it's just "hard times" out there.

So, this weekend I had decided to collect every bit of spare change in my life and head to the coinstar machine for something larger than pennies. (paying for gas and soda in pennies can be kinda embarassing). As my car was idling, waiting to turn into the grocery store parking lot, the less than gentle rattle of my muffler had just lulled me into a trance when the answer hit me! grün can help all these people! Apparently, Once upon a time. Some old lady decided to make a gingerbread man. Now, whether or not this lady was like the Dr. Frankenstein of gingerbread men, no one knows. But the story goes that said Gingerbread man morphed mid-bake into a living-breathing cookie boy/man?...
Anyways, long story short. The Gingerbread man is like "hells no, I don't want to be eaten" and he peaces out and gets eaten by a fox or something. Now, I remember thinking as a kid that I felt bad for the Gingerbread man. he was like a little cookie outlaw. public enemy #1. Totally misunderstood.
I must not be the only person that thinks so either, since our good friends at Fred have immortalized The Gingerbread man with this cookie cutter. It looks like he was in pretty bad shape when cookie mummification took place. But If I know the G. Man (as I like to call him), he is looking down from cookie heaven smiling, a big frosty smile. May the legend of the Gingerbread man never die.

the mustache (or moustache) is back!

the stache has long hid in the unstylish tyranny of the five o'clock shadow. acceptance of lip sweaters has ebbed and flowed throughout history but the mustache's glory years are back! the stache has been thrust back into levels of acceptability not seen since magnum pi and hulk hogan.

according to this bar chart by the American Mustache Institute, mustache acceptance is at a high. we were viewed as newsmen, evil dictators, and members of the village people. now, we are carpenters, steel workers and plumbers.

1st Annual "Everbody's A Winner" Super Friends Post-Marathon Block Party

for the past 31 years marathon runners, their friends and families, travel from all corners of the globe to converge on southern utah and celebrate the St. George Marathon.

now...i have watched people run by me on the sidelines for some years. and i have even been at the finish line a few times to see runners receive their medals.... the sweat, tears, triumph and most importantly the medals. *sigh...ohhh the medals.
i know i will never get one of those medals. witnessing this event annually has created what i call:

medal envy (n)-the unconscious desire and coveting to posses a medal, leading to feelings of inferiority and defensive or compensatory behavior .

so, the super friends have decided to celebrate the fact that everybody can be a winner. the first 50 people will get their own super friends block party participant medal. come have some free food and drinks and listen to great music all to celebrate the winner in everyone! yeeeahoooo!

the block party will kick off on october 4, 2008 (on what is traditionally known as "marathon weekend") in st. george, utah @ 10am-2pm.

bring your bikes, blades, skate decks, roller skates.... any wheels you might have (we do not discriminate) and enjoy the fun.

Sunset Cycles will be giving away a free cruiser bike and running some unconventional races for all ages and abilities, grün will be giving away gift certificates, Soho Skatehub is donating a skatedeck and will have their skate team throwing down some demos, Sandy Crack Skimboards will be showing the newest in skim boards as well as awarding one to a lucky partyer. Finally Tropsicals will be there to provide the best shave ice anywhere, their ice is sooooo nice.

grün loves green and gama-go and we've just gotten some new gear... from gama-go... and it's green and i heart it. i've been waiting months to get the craftsman owl hoodie.

now that i have secured one for myself i am certain of the following:

2. my powers of persuasion are unparalleled.

dolls for zombiephiles

The monster magnetic action figures bring me such joy for a number of reasons. First, I love zombies. From toxic zombies to techno zombies (See:Deadly Friend). There is something so fascinating about a reanimated corpse coming back from the dead to feast on human flesh. I watch all the zombie movies, play the video games and I've even read a few chapters from "The Zombie Survival Guide" in case there is a zombieocolypse.

Now, rewind 10 years from today and there is a little girl and her sisters playing dolls every Sunday. We couldn't afford Barbies but it worked out because my grandma actually designed paper dolls. So we had Barbie's paper counterpart in surplus. My sisters and I would play for hours coming up with scenarios that started with "let's pretend that...". But I remember what took up the majority of the time was cutting out their clothes. Between the three of us we had one pair of Fiskars scissors. This took me an especially long time since I was a struggling lefty in a right-handed world (which I still maintain should get me a handicap parking permit). All this clipping and planning really cut into our actual playing time. Now years later some genius decides to combine the timeless entertainment of our paper dolls and the raw power of magnets! We have the technology people! These monsters come with mix and match body parts to create the creepiest, craziest and most whack-attack monsters ever. Not to mention 4 different magnetic backgrounds to set the mood. Sigh.....and this is why I love the monster magnetic action figures.
